Here at Wyvern Academy we are dedicated to the inclusion of all our pupils across the school. Practise at Wyvern Academy has been informed by the January 2015 Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Code of Practise. This document defines Special Educational Needs as:
“A child or young person has SEN if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her.”
The purpose of SEND provision is to enable young people to progress as individuals, and we examine the needs of students to understand their needs so that they can reach their potential.
Pupils with SEND receive their education in a mainstream setting at Wyvern Academy and join fully with their peers in the curricular and extra-curricular life of the school.
Our aims are:
* To ensure that all pupils have access to a broad and balanced curriculum.
* To ensure the identification of all pupils requiring SEND provision as early as possible.
* To ensure that parents of pupils with SEND are kept fully informed of their child’s progress and attainment.
* To ensure that all pupils with SEND are involved in decisions affecting their future SEND provision.
Individual Access Plans
For each pupil Identified as having Special Educational Needs, an Individual Access Plan (IAP) will be created. This is to ensure that all staff members are aware of pupil needs in order for them to put provisions in place to target better outcomes. Our IAP’s include a pen portrait of the pupil in order to provide a clear view of them and their needs.
